An ideal spot close to the top attractions of Burgundy

The Côte d’Or is undoubtedly the most famous and treasured destination of wine lovers. The Route des Grands Crus, a.k.a. the Champs Elysées of Burgundy, traverses 38 villages along 60 km between Dijon and Santenay, including those with prestigious names such as Gevrey Chambertin, Vosne Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pommard, Volnay and Meursault, covering 32 of the 33 great vineyards of Burgundy.

DSC_0335Burgundy has even more treasures for you to discover. The verdant countryside of Auxois and its charming fortified citadel of Semur; the old towns of Autun and Auxerre, famous for the splendour of their cathedrals; the world-famous Cluny; St Philibert Abbey in Tournus tracing its history to the 9th century; St Vincent Cathedral in Chalon-sur-Saône with its medieval frescos restored with the help of Japanese students; those Burgundy Renaissance jewels, the châteaux of Ancy-le-Franc and Tanley; the magnificent Romanesque abbeys of Frontenay and Vezelay… And of course Dijon, the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy, with its incredible architectural and artistic wealth.

Taking advantage of the exceptional welcome of the Phoenix Wine Club, at the Château of Saint-Germain in the southern Côte d’Or close to Beaune and its famous Hospices, you are also within easy reach of two other great Burgundy vineyards, that of Mâcon and the Côte de Chalon. Then, a little further towards Paris, you have Chablis, the 33rd great Burgundy vintage.  You will be staying in the heart of one of most beautiful and prestigious regions of French history.
